Morocco

Morocco is a very fasinating country that has many things that are from long ago.  Muslim is a major religion there and has the second holiest city is the Muslim religon.  This city is also the capitol of the country, Rabat.  Morocco is located in the Northwestern part of Africa right below the Striat of Gibraltar and Spain.

Morocco is very different than the United States.  One of their traditional food is bstilla.  Bstilla is a pie filled with pigeon meat and ground almonds.  It was then sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon.  They also have taijne, which is a fragrant stew made in a shallow clay pot over an open fire.  For dessert you can have "gazelle horns."  They are cresent-shaped pastries plump with almond paste and sweet with sugar and orange blossom water.  In lots of their meals they also have lamb and pigeon.  Another way Morocco is different is their religion.  In the United States we are mostly Protestant or Roman Catholic, where here they are almost all Muslim.  Only 1.5% of the people are not Muslim.  becuase they are Muslium most of the people wore different kinds of clothes then we do here in the United States.  The women wear long dresses along with veils.  The colors of their outfits are usual dark.  The men wear black pants and shirts.  Some wear some hats.  The people in Morocco speak a lsnguage called Arabic.  They also have French as a buisness language.  In Arabic hello is mahaban.

Background of Morocco

Morocco's long sruggle for independece from France ended in 1956.  Tangier was also turned over that same year.  In the late 1970's Morocco finally annexed Western Sahara, but the territory is still indispute.  As politics began to establish the bicameral legislature was established in 1997.  Parliamentary elections were held for the second time in September 2002 and municipal elections were held in September 2003.
